Initial Signs of Failure
Washer stops mid-cycle with a '5C' or 'Nd' error code
Standing water remains in the drum after the wash cycle finishes
Loud humming noise heard during the drain phase
Washer door remains locked due to presence of water
GE WASHER REPAIR
Case study resolving a GE front-load washing machine that failed to drain standing water. Diagnosed and replaced a locked drain pump motor.

A direct electrical check showed the drain pump motor windings were receiving 120V but the impeller was physically seized by a foreign object (a loose hair clip), which overheated and burned out the pump motor windings.
Unplugged the washer and manually drained the water via the lower pump filter hose.
Removed the lower front kick panel to access the pump assembly.
Unbolted the pump housing and disconnected the wire harness and water clamps.
Removed the pump motor and extracted the obstructing hair clip.
Tested resistance of the pump motor windings and verified a complete burn-out.
Installed a new OEM GE drain pump motor and re-connected clamps and wiring.
Performed a test cycle to verify drainage speed, pump operation, and leak-free seals.
